Bye-Bye, Binky

Read "Bye-Bye, Binky", a giving up the pacifier sample storybook: a fictional example of a personalized book.

  1. Henry had a binky. It was soft and lilac and fit just right. Binky came to naps, to bedtime, and sometimes to the store.

  2. One morning, Henry and Binky padded into the kitchen. 'Look how tall you are getting!' said Mom, kneeling down for a hug.

  3. 'You are getting so big,' said Dad. 'Big kids say goodbye to their binky. We can choose a special day.'

  4. They drew a big star on the calendar. 'In three sleeps,' said Mom, 'Binky goes on an adventure.'

  5. One sleep. Two sleeps. Each morning Henry put a sticker next to the star.

  6. 'Who needs a binky more than a big kid?' Henry wondered. 'Tiny babies,' said Dad. 'Babies just starting out.'

  7. On the special day, Henry picked a yellow balloon. He tied Binky on with a ribbon, all by himself (with a little help).

  8. At the window, the sky was pink and gold. 'Bye-bye, Binky!' Henry waved. Up, up, up it floated.

  9. Mom and Dad hugged him tight. 'That was a big, brave goodbye,' they said.

  10. On Henry's pillow was a small surprise: a soft green dinosaur with a note that said, 'Thank you, big kid.'

  11. The first night was tricky. Henry's mouth felt empty, and he wiggled and wiggled.

  12. Dad showed him a trick: smell the flower, blow out the candle. In, and out. In, and out.

  13. Mom sang the moon song, very quietly. Henry hugged Dino and closed his eyes.

  14. When the sun came up, Henry jumped out of bed. 'I did it! I slept without Binky!'

  15. Every night without Binky got a shiny star. The stars marched across the chart like a parade.

  16. At breakfast, Henry sat in his booster at the big table. 'The RED cup, please!' he asked, all by himself.

  17. Sometimes Henry missed Binky. Then he hugged Dino and took a dragon breath. Whoosh.

  18. Mouths that are free can do so many things: whistle, giggle, blow bubbles, and sing.

  19. Some evenings, Henry looked up at the sky. 'I hope a tiny baby loves Binky,' he said.

  20. Henry snuggled down with Dino, warm and proud. Goodnight, big kid. Sweet, Binky-free dreams.
